I haven't changed a set on a sd, but if they are like any other non electric mirrors I have changed then it shouldn't be more than popping the cover off, taking 3-4 nuts off and then put the new one back on the same way. 10 minute job at most, so bundle up and go get us some pics
I'm hoping they're as easy as the set I switched out on that 2013 F150. They were electric and it was only a matter of unplugging and plugging back in along with the nuts. Not a bad job at all. Pics posted when the mirrors arrive and the job gets done.
so here are the pics. Note the chrome cover, it comes with two covers - the one shown and a black one. The black one can also be painted to whatever you want.
I seriously considered those very eBay mirrors. What steered me however was the actual users recommendations.
Post pics -and your experience with them, please. Let the next guy have an informed choice between them.
Here goes: I like the mirrors overall, but I think the fit at the exterior top corner could have been better.
Old mirror:
Remove black plastic trim piece. It pulls off by hand.
Trim piece off. Remove thin black strip and the top & bottom rubber plugs. The center can stay in.
Remove the (4) 11mm nuts. When there are only a couple of turns remaining, finish removal with needle nose or vise grip needle nose so that nuts don't fall down into door. Also, have window open and grasp mirror with free hand so that it doesn't fall out onto the ground. Not likely, but could happen.
Insert the new mirror and tighten the nuts. I kept going in a circuit, snugging each one until they were tight.
I used a thin film of latex caulk to stick the black strips back on. The plastic covers pop back in easily.
The exterior top corner fit mentioned earlier. I wish the gap weren't there but I don't know what could have been done differently here. The gasket on the new mirrors is slightly thicker and configured just a tiny bit differently than the old. The old are glued in so there was no swapping them.
The finished product. Overall I don't have any complaints. The price was right and the mirror itself seems to be good quality. It will definitely give me some better visibility in backing situations.
Note: Power mirrors have a few more steps and require door trim panel removal. 1A Auto has a great how to video on YouTube.
