2V, 3V or 4V?

I threw this out in the Light duty truck section but got no response so I'll try here. Of all 3 modular 5.4L motors, 2 valve, 3 valve or 4 valve, which is the best? I know when I bought my 6.0L powerstroke there was a laundry list of design flaws that if corrected made the 6.0L what is lovingly referred to as "bulletproof". Has the same been done for the 3V 5.4L? The F350 is up for sale and I'm looking at getting an Expedition again, I don't mind buying an older model, I pretty much know the older expeditions inside and out from owning a '99 for nearly 10 years.

I'd say you can't beat a 4V, especially since that is what is in a GT. But since that engine is only in the GT, Shelby, Cobra R and some of the original Navigators we'll throw it out of the discussion.

The '09+ 3V's seem to have most of the issues fixed. 2 piece Plugs and crappy cam phasers being the big 2 that I know of.

I haven't kept up with when the Expy's got what engine.

I'm not opposed to the Navigator, it's just a bit too refined for me, the 4v gets a little more HP than the 2v, 300 vs 260 but the TQ is the same at 355 lbs. I'm looking more for reliability, ease of maintenance info..

The 4 valve was only in the Cobra and Mach 1, not the Gt.
