Hi all,
Im thinking about purchasing a SCT X4tuner on my 2012 F-150. I have 55K miles on it. My primary reason for the tuner is to increase gas mileage. I currently average about 16mpg.
I have read many positive things about the tuner in regards to increased performance. However, I have not been able to find much information regarding increased MPGs.
Does anyone have any information that they can share?
Thank you.

Reason: spelling error
I have a friend that just purchased one of these for his F250 6.0. It's pretty nice and it took us about 20 minutes to put in. I can't say much for fuel mileage, but I can say the temptation to hammer the skinny pedal with it and crank it onto Street or Performance tune may be high. Those things are not going to help with MPG. He says it's been more of a toy than a positive, but he's a bit of a wild man so take that for what it's worth!
What's your current setup? 5.0 or EB? Any other mods? Running larger tires? Give us some data and everyone can chime in.
Thanks for the reply Mike.
Here is some additional info:
Its a 5.0 V8, not an ecoboost. It has the FX4 package. I have 18" tires which came with the vehicle. I have not done any mods to it at all, so its still stock.
The only aftermarket products I installed is a bed liner, and a cap.
I occasionally tow with it. I tow a boat which is about 4000 lbs with the trailer. When I tow, the MPG is between 12-13.
My goal is to increase MPGs for normal driving as well as when Im towing. So if the tuner is not the way to go, any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.
I can't respond directly about your truck with that programmer. But I can say the SCT programmer is a good programmer. That said, it's only as good as the person who writes the tunes. I had one with my '06 5.4L F150. I didn't notice much of an increase in fuel mileage. But the overall drivability was greatly enhanced. I had zero throttle lag and the transmission shifted much better with the programmer. I had a tow tune and an economy tune. I may have gotten better fuel mileage had I let them write 93 octane tunes. But I didn't want to risk not being able to find 93 octane gas. So timing was limited to that which would be safe for 87 octane gas. Detonation with platinum plugs can be real ugly and expensive.
Why don't you check out mike at 5 Star Tuning...I have heard great things about him and the tunes. I will be purchasing a tuner from Mike when i am ready! He does have performance tunes, towing tunes, shift tunes, and economy tunes. He is also a site sponsor!!!!
^^^ What Rob said. I've been running Mikes Tow/Performance 87 tune in my truck for a few years now and really like it. Better shifting, no lag, a few extra ponies, just overall much more fun to drive. Tuners and increased MPG's don't even belong in the same sentence so if thats your ultimate goal, I'd stay away from them.

With your current mpg being around 16 mpg you can expect to see gains of around 1.6 mph. In addition to the gain of 1.6, you'll have more power, torque and better driveability. The mileage gains are nice, but if you drive like me then you use it to offset your new found performance.
