which programer

Hi guys I got a 04 f150 I just bought a programmer for its the sct x3 and love it but now my dad wants to buy one for his 01 with the 5.4 Just wanted to see what you guys got and have any of you guys seen an increase im mpg. I havent had mine long so I cant really tell cause im always on the gas. I havent lost mpg yet so im happy. I was thinking about getting him the sct like mine but do I get preprogramed tunes or custom it would be all 87 octane like econ tow and performance. He never gets on it unless he has to. So what you think? Should there be a small increase in mpg if he doesnt get on it. Thanks guys

I have a Superchips Micro Max tuner on my '03 5.4 and really like it and have seen fuel savings increase of 2 mpg in performance mode using premium fuel. After saying all that, I do notice a mild difference in the performance of my truck; firmer shifts, quicker acceleration, less fall off of rpms between shifts, and a better idle. Here's the other side, I was only looking for better shifts and a little better performance along with spending as little as possible. Bought the tuner off Mustang Unlimited's ebay site new for $209.00 delivered and if I had paid the full 350-400 that I see them for at other stores I would have been very diappointed with my purchase.
My opinion on your question is that your dad will be happy with a "canned" tuner off the shelf by any of the tuner manufacturs. The question is how much do you want to pay?

I have the Xcal-3 and love it....had 3 custom tunes done and I can honestly say it made a difference compared to the Superchips micro tuner I used to have. As for mileage I would say I done slightly better but having 34" tires and only 3:55's doesn't help me at all.
What i really like about the Xcal is when ever I do a mod I can get the parameters adjusted for it through a tune. For instance my new 24lbs Ford motorsport injectors would never work with stock or canned tunes, so the sky is the limit for modifications.

well im leaning towards the same one i got. 87 econ 91 performance and 91 tow sct x3. He said that price is fine. Like I said he aint hard on the gas and we tow a 21 foot boat and a snowmobile trailer so he just wants to pick up couple mpg more while pulling that and just driving. I told him i paid 380 and he said he would pay that too. So just wondering what everyone has and if anyone has the x3 with the same setting as me in their 5.4 of these years. Just wana know how it compares to mine with the 3v
