I just purchased a used 2000 F150 XLT, but something is a little strange. When I run the VIN number it shows the model as being a "F150 Lariat/Super Cab/Work Series/X". I have never seen a description like this and the truck does not have all of the standard features that you would expect to see on a Lariat, the interior is pretty much like a standard XLT. Has any one seen any thing like this? What is the Work Series/X? Thanks for the help.

R - Hydraulic Brakes, GVWR 6,001-7000 lbs.
X17 - F150 (SuperCab), StyleSide, 4x2.
L - 5.4L EFI-SOHC, Eight Cylinder
4 - CHECK DIGIT
Y - 2000 (Model Year)

The trimming will tell you what type of package it was. The packages start with Work then to XL then XLT then Lariat. Lariat is the top dog of the F-Series line. Your trim emblems should tell you. I don't know of another way to tell, maybe looking at the label on the driver's door panel, I don't remember what all was on that. Here is a link for more infor on your truck: https://www.ford-trucks.com/specs/2000_f150_1.html
I think the Work Series/X is the version of the truck. X means below XL, I think. I am not for sure on that. But that raises the question why did yours decode as Lariat/Super Cab/Work Series/X
Confusing.
The emblems on the side say that it is an XLT. It has all the features that an XLT has but it also has the Lariat wheels, CD player, etc... Your right though, it is very confusing why it is showing up as a Lariat.
Does Lariat come in different versions such as a Lariat X, XL, XLT, where even the X is still different than the base F150 XLT? I'm just throwing a guess out there. I'm stumped...
No. Lariat is the package. Like X, XL, XLT... They are all packages. It could have had some add-ons at the dealership that sold it originally. A person saying, I want some of those Lariat Options, but I don't want to pay the extra 5,000 to get the Lariat Version. So the dealership sells them an XLT off the line and add some of the Lariat options to it and keep the price lower than the entire Lariat Package. See what I'm saying?
Whatever decoder you used, I don't think it is right. I tried the one at fleet.ford.com and it gave the same info I got.
Sounds like a similiar problem I have with my insurance company...
The truck is a badged XLT, but they describe it as an F150 Work... the trim level "work" existed in 2000. It was a stripped down bare-bones model below XL trim. It didn't have a bit of chrome, the bumpers and wheels were argent (matte) silver and the interior had absolutely no options other than the carpet delete (vinyl). Now if I ever got into a wreck I don't know if the adjuster would think I was trying to pull a fast one since my truck is not the "work" version. I've told them on numerous occasions about the error, but apparently that's the only version in their data base for that VIN. I know the VIN doesn't give the trim codes, that's a door jamb item.
As far as I can see, maybe the fleet decoder is flawed and people who feed it info aren't into making sure it's right.
If you have XLT badges that's what you have. Lariat will say Lariat on the side in the pin striping.
I talked to the guys at the dealership and it looks like the person who originally ordered the truck, ordered the XLT package but wanted a few of the Lariat options as well.

True... but why add Lariat upgrades and put on a Lariat sticker? Seems you'd want to leave it stock and then put the sticker on... waste of time and money. Jamb stickers are bit harder to fab and if you know what they mean, you can cross check them.
