trailer brake wiring

trailer brake wiring

On the back of my 96 f250 their are 3 wires red blue and black
The blue has 5 volts the other 2 are zero
Do I need to add a fuse or something ?

Do you have a brake controller? Blue is generally the color wire used for a brake controller.

Does the truck have a tow package? Is this a plug or just three wires hanging?

Yes, typically the blue is for trailer brakes. It should not have power on it without the controller activated.

yes it has a tow package

it dose have a brake controler that i pluged in to the plug under the dash

yes it is a plug with three wires red blue and black

all of the fuse are good i thought i should have power on the red wire

Maybe you are looking at C424 and you are calling the Black/Green wire Black the Orange wire red and the Dark Blue wire blue.

Used for the Trailer plug.
Connector 424 (4):
BK/G = Trailer Back-up lamps.
O = Trailer Battery Charge.
DB = to Brake coil in trailer wheels.

Connector 407 (4):
BR/W = Trailer marker lamps.
DG = Trailer right turn lamp.
W = Trailer ground.
Y = Trailer left turn lamp.

Used for the rear of the truck
Connector 401 (8):
LG/O = Truck rear left turn lamp.
BR = Truck rear marker lamp.
BK = Truck rear lamp ground.
O/LB = Truck rear right turn lamp.
BK/PK = Truck back-up lamp.
W/R = Truck body lamps.
W = Truck rear ground to C407.
