I Just have a quick question. I replaced the factory radio in my wifes 96 Eddie Bauer Bronco the other day. I installed a
Pioneer DEH-1500 and she loves it. However, the factory speakers are not so hot with this radio/cd player. I'm planning to replace the speakers and I need to know,
How do you access the rear speakers? Do the grills just pop out of the side pannels? Is there any tricks to removing them?
Take a close look at the 4 corners of the grill. IF they havent changed them much, then the screws that hold the grill in are colored to match the interior, making them real easy to miss. Once the grill is off, the the speaker is easy to change out. I looked at my grilla about 3 times before I finally noticed a slight scratch in the corner and realized it was a screw.
Thanks for such a quick response BillyBob.
I went out and double checked and nope, no screws. They look like they just snap into place, but I'd like to be sure before I start pulling on things, if you know what I mean.
Try popping the edge of your side panel to at least give you access to see the back side of the grill. The panels come loose with a couple of screws, usually one at the top and one at the bottom, maybe 1 in the middle. The rest of the panel should be held on with plastic clips that pop into holes in the sheet metal behind them. The grill may have nothing more than thin metal rails at the top and botton so you will have to flex the grill in the middle to get one end or the other to slide out.
If that doesnt work, then check out this site....may be helpful.
If they are like my 1992 Bronco's, you just pop them right off with a screwdriver. They pop back in place once you're done. It's kind of like a metal clip that slips into another metal piece.
they arent really disigned to come off from the front, if you get directions, they say you have to remove the whole rear panel, ya way to much work. butyou can pull them off with a screw driver, they are a bit tricky to get back on because they originaly clip from the back.
Thanks 4x4 and Trucky18. That's what I wanted to hear.
I thought they'd pop off without removing the entire side panel.
That would be way too much work. For me at least. LOL
Now to decide on which speakers. Pioneer for sure.
The '92-96 speaker grilles come off easily from the front if you pop the 4 clips near the front edge loose first. The back edge has large hooks that wrap around the bedwalls, so don't start there.
