500 new robots I read installed at this plant to produce the new aluminum F-150. Who makes these robots and how much do they cost? I mean it's not like there are zillions of companies that make such high tech equipment as one of these robots. So buying this technology must be very costly??
Don,t know about the robots but a friend of mine(electrician) worked on the job installing 6 new presses to press the aluminum body panels. He said the presses were all made in China. They told him nobody in the US makes them.
Yeah I was wondering who would make such obscure machines seeing how there are only so many auto plants throughout who do not replace such devices yearly.
That' why I asked about the price for one would have to make a ton on each machine due to the fact they last forever.

Companies like that also make a significant portion of their revenue off of service contracts as you can't just pop out to a parts supplier when something breaks....the source company usually has all the proprietary specs to fabricate and install any part that is required.....
Plus another bundle on the software and systems that control said robots.....my FIL works for a company like that as a service tech.
There are a lot articles out about this switch over. It was a massive undertaking. I read in the Detroit Free Press Ford worked with Michigan DOT and surrounding areas to co-ordinate the massive amount of truck traffic during the process.
I'm just going by what the articles I've read/saw stated. There is a big Ford plan in Chicago plus we have a lot of steels mills and factories in NW Indiana near Chicago. You would be surprised at how many automation companies are in the area. After working at Inland Steel, in process automation, I went to Rockwell automation to work on controls for presses. Weird thing is, I ended up in financial markets.
