Editor's Note: Apparently the line at the end of the story and the date on the article weren't enough, so we'll say it now up top so everyone knows loud and clear: APRIL FOOLS! (You're welcome, Ford, now build one already)
Still you never know, it got everyone's attention. With any luck, Ford will see the demand is clearly there.
But it's not. That's why the FJ Cruiser is being discontinued. The niche market for a body-on-frame short wheelbase SUV is adequately filled by the Wrangler.
Who exactly would buy it? Too short of wheelbase for heavy towing, and the truck-based architecture would provide worse fuel economy and handling than unibody options like the Edge.

RIP Bronco, it will likely stay that way.
Exactly this
Those that want it will get it built though. You can always chop an F-150 up. Those that want to something the market doesn't, simply have to pay the premium to get it made (IE it takes alot more money to build 300 of them than 30000 of them) .
Ye're right Tom, RIP Bronco. Oh me, why, why did I not buy one way back in, wha' was it? '66 when they first came out?!? I was doing construction work way back then, noooo, I didn't buy a new Bronco, noooo, not (insert self kicking machine here) me! Dagnabbit.
