Here's my situation, 92 F350 5 speed. When I turn on the key, the wait to start light comes on for about a second, maybe 2. The volt meter in the dash shows a draw for an additional 5-6 seconds. It's still hard to start. Here's what I've checked. Glow plugs, with ohm meter, all check good. fusible link at the starter relay, connections at the GP relay, took them off and cleaned then, they looked fine. and the gang plug that goes into the cab, unplugged, and put a little dielectric grease in the plug. If I ground a test light, and probe one of the GP leads, I get voltage to the GP for the additional 5-6 seconds while the volt meter on the dash shows a draw. When the relay clicks, the draw goes away, and the test light goes out. anybody have any ideas?
Just cause all the glow plugs ohm'd out fine does not mean they are actually working properly.
So if your stumped at this point I'd pull the plugs and bench test. Then go from there.
Thanks fellas, I did read through the sticky, and did a forum search for Glow Plugs, and related. Haven't found anything that matched what I have going on. I did also pull each wire off of each Glow Plug when I checked them.I found one bad GP, and one bad wire end that came off when I pulled it. I guess the next thing is to pull each plug and test it. I'm just trying to avoid starting at one end of the system and replacing components until it works. Thanks for the help so far. when I find it I will post the solution
