Hey all,
I recently purchased a 2005 F250 with the infamous 6.0L diesel. When I purchase it I noticed that the boost pressure is normally near 0 and only climbs to about 8 lbs during hard throttle and then drops near 0 as u easy off the throttle. I have tested others that seemed to have more boost those trucks were 2006 & 2007 which I have been told have improvements over my year. Does the boost I am experiencing normal for my year?
Nope, you should definitely make more boost than that. Should see 22-24 psi. You may have a boost leak in your CAC tubes/boots, up pipes, or MAP hose. Do you have any way to check for DTC codes? Could also be your EBP sensor/tube. A bad or clogged EBP sensor will cause low boost.
A EBP code won't cause the CEL to come on, at least it didn't on mine. Mine constantly threw a P0470 code but no CEL. If you've got a way to monitor your EBP pressure, it should be right around 14 at KOEO and right around 16 at idle. If it's not reading the same as your MAP and Baro sensors at idle, your EBP sensor is bad. I was having the same problem as you and that was one of the problems. The other problem was that I have and EGR delete an not running any tunes to fool the PCM into thinking it was getting a reading from the EGR valve. I found an old EGR valve and just plugged it in to the EGR pigtail. I'm not sure which one fixed my issue or if it was a combination of both but I make normal boost now.
I still have the EGR valve. The truck only has 53000 miles on it but there was a lot of soot in the exhaust back pressure line at the top near the sensor.
I agree with Money on your turbo but get your vgt's first from a scanner, etc.
Also, check your MAP rubber tube that runs onto the top of your pass side valve cover. They split and will create a similar issue. Easy fix if cracked, bigger deal with the turbo.
