So I take my new (for me but used) 2007 F350 to the local Ford Dealer to have the oil changed, along with fuel and water separator filters. I even added some Archoil 9100 since it treated my 03 so well. Since I had no history of the last change I wanted to do it right away.
While its on the lift he notices a leak near the hydroboost and quotes me $650 for the repair. I think there on crack...but that's my opinion.
Anyways I look at it and I see a leak at one of the connections under the Master Cyl. Its the connection closest to the firewall. My question is there a oring in there that can be replaced or will I need to replace the entire part?
I'm not trying to be a smarta**, but if you have no clue, I'd let a pro do the job. Brakes are not the place to learn on your own if you have no mechanical back ground. Your steerimg can also be involved because of the hydroboost system being an integral part
Thanks for your input.
I was simply trying to find out before I take it apart. I'd rather have the parts on hand prior to doing so. So if I don't know if there is one or not, figured it be an easy question for someone that has had it apart before. Or maybe it would be a recommendation from the senior forum users to just replace it.
I can look on my CD after I get home. Wouldn't think this is to hard, probably a tapered fit and a little Teflon tape may be needed or just snug it up. A crack in it would appear as a dark line, if then I'd replace it.
$650 is a lot to guess at and he wouldn't be doing it with my $$$ either.
DO NOT Use tape on any of the lines. If that stuff gets into the brake system your hosed.
The line if not sealed by an O-ring have a teflon seal. The tape had a bad habit of
going places where you don't want it like a control valve and orifices.
Flare lines seal on the flare face not the threads anyway. The power-steering
have O-rings or the teflon seals.
Check to make sure all the nuts are tight. Not gorilla tight. But good and sung.
If you don't know what your doing like 69cj said take to a pro. Better a little
less money in the pocket then having to be put 6' under do to a brake failure.
I'm aware of having to bleed brake lines and how to bench bleed a master cyl.
Anytime you open a line your allowing air into the system. I'm not a expert mechanic but have wrenched for many years on all the other cars we've had. Primarily the vette I've owned for the past 12 years.
Anyways I'll just open it up and see what exactly type of flare is used. It is brake fluid that's leaking. A couple of days ago I marked the resevoirs of both brake and steering. Its the brake fluid level that has dropped.
I may just take the easy route out and throw a new master cyl on.
You can get the master separate from the hydroboost.
To do a full bleed it takes a bit of fluid and if it been
in there for a while it might be a good idea to flush out
all the old fluid and start fresh.
Im also looking for info. Between the hydroboost module and the master cylinder there is a joint that joins the two, mine is leaking power steering fluid????? O ring ? or do I need to replace the whole module? Does anyone have a procedure for replacing this module, part # etc???
