i was getting some regular service on my 1988 bronco before i drive it across country from CA to SC and they told me that the master cylinder is leaking a little. do yall think that this will be a major problem for driving across or should it be alright?
Once a master cylinder starts to leak, it usually goes downhill FAST. Like within a couple of weeks until you have no brakes. Kameronth's year is not typical. Replace it now, it is very easy. $50 and a couple of nuts to R&R and you are done. Bench bleeding is the biggest PITA of the whole job. But don't get too hung up on the bench bleeding - the last one that I replaced never seemed to bleed on the bench, and I got tired of pumping it, so I just stuck it on the truck to see what would happen - it worked fine. Just give it a few pumps on the bench to get the major air out and install it. If it does not work you can always bleed it on the truck.
Is it an external leak or an internal leak? I was thinking that he meant an internal leak; if it is external and just leaking fluid out, that should be easy to fix. You can fix an internal leak as well, they are not hard to rebuild if you get the kit. But m/c's are cheap so I generally just replace the whole thing.
