IIRC, my 1970 460s had the block number hidden by, or just above the starter.
For cylinder head prefixes, look between cylinders 2 & 3, and 6 & 7 by the exhaust manifolds just below the valve covers. That's what I remember, anyway.
A 1971 429/460 would still be high compression ~ 10.5:1. For 1972 compression is way down, and timing is retarded via timing chain and sprockets (the crank sprocket teeth vs. keyway position).
The ONLY 429s that ran 11:1+ compression was the CJ/SCJ, all Thunderjet 429's 68-71 are 10.5:1 whether 2 or 4 bbl carb. 460 Lincolns in this year range are also 10.5:1. All BBF dropped to 8:1-8.4:1 from 72-on depending on year, head, piston etc.
