E-350 V-10 Transmission

Hey all, got not help elsewhere so, figured I might try here. I have a 98 E-350 club wagon XLT with the Triton V-10. My transmission is going and I was wondering if the V-10 was based on another engine such as a 351. I contacted my local salvage yard and they told me it had to be year specific and from a van only and from a V-10 only. I have the 4R100 and it seems to me that they were used in a lot of vehicles without the V-10. I dont know if the salvage yard was telling me that to get more money, because one from a V-10 is WAY more expensive then one from a V-8. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

A 4R100 from a 5.4L V8 will bolt right up and will work....for a little while. Then the torque of the V10 will tear it up and you will need to replace it.

There is no such thing as a 4R100 from a 5.8L. Those were E4ODs and won't bolt up.

OK, why would it tear it up? whats different from the two? Torque converter, gears, clutches? Also, I only said 351 because that's what came to mind, hence the "such as" in that sentence.

Clutches and the torque converter are different. Neither are up to the job of handling the torque from a V10.

The alternatives are to replace that trans with one just like it, or rebuild the one you have.
