Plug and Ignition Coil

Hey guys, so my 2000 2v v10 started what sounds like a miss. I don't know when the plugs and ignition coils were last changed but that's were I plan to start. Its got 160K on it. I was wondering what you guys recommend for ignition coils? I plan on running NGK iridium plugs. But would like to stay reasonable on price for the coils and being that the cheapest I can find oem motorcraft coils for is $40 per I will have to go aftermarket route. I've seen kind of mixed reviews on the accels and was wondering if there were any other options.

I run Motorcraft plugs. I also replace all the boots and springs when the plugs get changed. I only change coils if they are actually bad. I usually buy the coils and boot/spring kits from Rockauto. I don't overspend for them and they've worked 100% for me so far on both this truck and the last one, a 97 5.4 that I had for almost 10 years.

YMMV.

I agree with proectsho. Money is best spent on the OEM parts. Motorcraft plugs are platinum and designed to last 100k. I wouldn't change the coil until its needed. Currently at around 144k without issues.

I bought my truck with 126k and changed the plugs. Only one coil needed changed afterwards.

Rockauto always has a 5% discount code to use and they are priced well.

If you are able to go through Horizon Ford in Tukwila, WA they can provide part numbers over the phone and you could will call it to pick up or ship it.

I would also encourage you too check out this thread for some preventive work during install. Next time I do plugs I will probably use the o rings as suggested.

I stick with Motorcraft coils, they just work. Though your coils may be fine. If you want Iridium plugs the Autolite Iridiums work well in the V10. I installed a set in my dads V10 and he has around 30k trouble free miles on them.

Great thanks for the input guys. I think im sticking with the NGK iridiums for plugs. I've have good results from them in my old 5.4L, and my old wrx.
