I am looking for a early 2000's truck to tow my 10,000lbs trailer. Currently using a 1990 F250 with a 460. It does have low miles, but I would like to have a little more power. Any help with from engine selection to cabs is appreciated.
Mine is an 01 F350/CC/V-10....tows my 5th wheel pretty good. total weight is around ...18K and trailer is 10K. Putting 4:30 gears in this next week to make it even better.
Diesel fuel is expensive nowadays, was more then premium fuel which I think is Fing crazy! But the MPG is pretty good compared to a gas, though a diesel is more expensive to fix. Your pretty blan on what your going to do with this truck. Some towing? daily driver? yard art?...
My neighbor has a 2000 F350 dually with V10. He loves it and hauls a heavy trailer with a big tractor on it with no issues.
I had an '03 (last year of 7.3) with the 7.3 and loved it as well. Better MPG (14) vs the V10 and more torque.
I'd avoid a 6.0 unless you know its history.
For a cab- who are you hauling? I was single when I had the '03, and I liked the extended (super) cab. Room in the back in a pinch, but shorter wheelbase. Now I have kids and the crew cab is perfect.
