Headlight Replacement

OK. I know this has been up here before, but for the life of me I can't seem to find it in a search. Maybe I am just going cross-eyed and overlooking it.

So My 04 350xl DRW has the stock sealed beam headlights. As much as I have thoroughly enjoyed their lack of light and retro look. I noticed the other day that one of them has a fair amount of moisture in it. Still works just has terrible as always but we are coming into the colder months. We all know that it means that the bulb will continue to work flawed as always right up until the moment the mercury gets to about -10 and the wind creeps up to 50mph. I will then be out in the driveway trying to rush through the swap.

I thought maybe for once in my life I would be proactive and go ahead and swap the bulb now.

Here is my question(s)

- Is there a sealed beam bulb that puts out a good amount of light? I spend a great deal of time where there is no ambient light.

- Has anyone had any luck with the aftermarket swaps to the H4 or greater bulbs.. I do have a plow on my truck and the harness is tapped for that. However a swap with a pigtail conversion I think would be ok.

- Just to mix it up. Whats the opinion on HID?

OK. I'll take the flame shots for posting something I know has been talked about. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Glenn

I can't help you too much, but I can say that you NEED projector lenses if you want to run HID's. They will focus the light properly and not blind other traffic.

I had HID's in my '06 Ram 3500...I just put bulbs in my stock headlights. Lots of people would flash me at night. But holy cow the light output was amazing! I removed them, and went back to stock hoping to save up for projector lenses...

I used to run the Hella H4 in my 1988 ranger and talk about light output.
They cost a few $ but I found them well worth the added costs.

They have a very crisp cutoff and good reflectors and a better glass
lens so you get all that light out the front.

OK. That will keep me from having to chop up my grill or my header.. (Not so concerned about chopping the header)

Another thought I had along those lines is these:
4x6 DIAMOND CUT SQUARE BLACK HOUSING HEADLIGHTS LAMP + H4 BULBS

Of course I will probably just go with the
Robot Check Robot Check

I had sorta figured I would need to slice and dice the nose up to put on some sort of H4 compliant housing. But the reviews on these seem pretty decent.

Thanks
G

I bought a set of aftermarket lights for my car, off ebay, that came with HID bulbs and ballasts.
They look awesome, but the HID's have been trouble, 1 of the ballasts is dead in about a year, and the light output is pretty miserable.

I would not buy headlights from ebay again, it is not worth it. I had to mount auxilary driving lights as brights, because the brights only lit up the road about 40 ft in front. What a pain in the ****.

I would go with the Hella lamps. They have been doing it for a long time
and are not some new to the block and not from some Chinese manufacturing place.
