Possible color change

So, I'll be looking at doing some body work on my 97 this winter and I'm thinking about changing the color since the entire truck will be repainted anyway.

I've been looking at a lot of pics and I think I might go with the black/silver two-tone or keep the original color. (red/white), I was just wondering what the paint code is for the silver part of the truck?

Not my truck...I just found this pic on the web.

That look similar to my silver(opal) WK IIRC

Just so you know changing colors is quite expensive when done correctly. I was thinking about in on my red 97 reg cab since I hate red, But I do not want to get that involved with pulling the cab

Thanks Brad,

Yeah, I know it is going to be expensive . The body shop has priced me 6k to change the bedsides, install new crossmembers under the bed, new fenders, and repaint the entire truck the same color it is now. And they said it would probably be over 7k to go a different color.

I plan on keeping this truck for a long time since I'll never get back the money that I have into it...and there is no way I'm spending 40k on a new truck

I hope you are getting ford fenders, not the cheap knock offs that don't tfit.

Also, I would get a different bed if yours needs cross members. That is not a common problem and if it has that issue, there there is probably more. A typical rusty wheel well bed is about $150.

It can also be less down time for your truck. They can work on the other bed and you can still be driving your truck.

Don't forget a radiator support as well. They are only 150(aftermarket) and while they have the fenders off, that would be the time to change it.

Look REALLY good at your cab corners, like take a pick and poke at them pretty hard. If you have rust, you will poke a hole or dent them

I have the fenders that I took off of our parts truck for the 93, and they are still unpainted. Probably aftermarket but I'm not positive.

Yes, the bed does have a few issues. A couple of the crossmembers are crushed, it has five holes drilled in the bed from the PO's fifth wheel, and the front of the bed is bent bad enough that it is almost touching the cab. I have been searching for a bed but haven't had much luck.

I do plan on checking out the rad support once the fenders are off, but I have no idea what condition it's in at the moment.

The only place on the cab that has any rust is just inside the bottom rear part of the door jambs. The paint has recently chipped off there exposing a little rust underneath.

IF they re Ford, they will be stamped as so. If not then aftermarket.

Also if you have the rust that you are describing then plan on a rad support, they re the FIRST thing to go

I probably will change the rad support unless it is in good shape. But I doubt it.

And I am going to start searching the local scrap yards and see if I can find a decent bed at a good price. I probably won't find any with good bedsides, but if I can find one at the right price that only has bad bedsides that will probably save me some cash on the labor.
