do any of you guys know how much it would be to repaint just the one side of my bed?
What color is it? I can tell you that I just paid $700 to have the entire outside of my replacement bed painted and the color is just a hair off. Metallics are a bitch. I wish I had bought an aluminum flatbed and been done with it.
it is a silver, the color code is z3. i just need the rear driver side done, just the bed. im not to concerned about how good of quality it is, as long as it looks decent. btw its a short bed
Ask around up around Reading area Philip, I'm sure theres a few good body-paint shops that would take care of yaa. Word of mouth is key but get a few estiments. I'd say around the 600.00 range, a bit more for body work and blend.
I had a friend of a friend paint my 84 Camaro Z-28 back in the day and it was horrible, paint runs, thicker paint spots in different areas, terrible. Not endorsing Maco but my car would have been better off I think, check around.
One idea is to have one of the Technical schools that teach auto body do it. I just had my entire truck fixed with rust holes (northern truck) dings, dents, etc and sanded, primed and painted with custom pearl paint and cost me parts... about $800. The labor is free since they're learning. Only sacrifice is if they suck. lol I got lucky and it came out pretty good.
Were is damage.
If on rear corner of bed, then maybe they can repair corner ,prime and keep color within panel.
If above won't work and it's SILVER blending is a must.
Above includes remove and install trim in order to do a nice Job.
Bed only
Paint 4 hrs
Clear 1.5
5.5 hrs at labor rate in area. lets say $50 per hr =$275
paint and material $30 per hr 30x 5.5 hrs=$165
Tax on material $20
R+I taillight .5,fuel door .3,wheel opening mlg.4,drop rear bumper 1.0 = 2.2 x $50 +$110
$275+$165+$110+$20=$570
No body work, painting within the panel
those are both good ideas. lol unfortuntly that would be like murder to me, its hard enough for someone tht owns a body shop to take it, let alone kids. great idea though
and tht actually isnt to bad. its the ENTIRE left side of the bed (short bed) but if i took the gas tank cover off, took the light out and rear bumper. i could save a bundle. do you think i should sand it for them?
I learned my lesson quite a few years ago on bodywork. I took my car to a "friend of a friend" who was about 1/8 mile from me & going to "help me out".. Long story short.. while fixing the front end damage.. he backed his tow truck into the door while my car was outside.. I was out a car for almost 2 weeks... the paint didn't match.. but its a good thing the car was blue.. because the "waves" in the door looked perfect then !!!!
Ever since then.. any issues I have had.. I go to another friends fathers shop.. about 1/2 hour away.. but they are top notch & their work is next to perfect every time.. They put my new (used) bed on last winter after someone rear ended me & unless i tell someone, you can't tell the bed has been repainted.
Its hard to break it all down.. but to paint both sides & the front of my bed.. it cost me $299 in paint labor & $170 in paint supplies.. They have 20 hrs of body labor also at $880. but the bed had a few dings/dents to fix & i'm assuming thats also including taking off & installing the bed.
