Determining value with a rebuilt engine

What's the rule of thumb for determining a trucks value with a recent rebuild? I have a 99 F250 with about 215k miles and we had the engine rebuilt just over a year ago (about 10k miles ago). We have the paperwork from the shop (yes it's reputable), but I'm not sure what to list the truck for.

It books at $5,600 in good condition, though the swing from faith to excellent condition is only a $800 difference. I checked CL and could only find one comp (less the rebuilt) that was selling for $5,500. The rebuild was a $6000+ rebuild. I realize I'll never recoup all of that, but what is a fair increase above KBB?

Sorry for all the generalities, we're out of town for the weekend so I can't get exact mileage, check the exact rebuild cost, etc.

Thanks in advance for all the help!

Don't know about wisdom, tho as a practical matter what's working against you is the fact that while the engine is "new" -er the rest of the truck is not. Transmission, suspension, steering, tires, PS, brakes, AC, etc. maybe there's more wiggle room on a trade-in, but for an outright sale it would probably be worth "wholesale" is about it.

There's also people out there (like me generally) who shy away from vehicles with 'rebuilt' engines. Things that go through my head, are things like "Did the owner abuse the vehicle to the point it blew up?", or "What was replaced and what wasn't?", or "How do I trust that the engine was rebuilt to spec with quality components?", or...

I could go on...but the point is that there are a small percentage of people who will pass on your truck because of it...shrinking the number of potential buyers for you.

Good luck!

I sold my '88 in 2010 with about 85K on a rebuilt engine and about 200K on the truck overall. I had the entire repair history of the truck to include the detailed engine build and that alone made my truck very valuable. The next thing that added value was that when the new owner looked under the hood, it was as if it was still on the showroom floor. Not a wire was out of place and there were no silly money sucking mods to contend with.

I wouldn't buy a used vehicle without a repair history and I wouldn't feel right asking top dollar for one that was lacking the same. My '88 did fetch top dollar and I very arrogantly held my price till the sale was within 10% of what I was asking.
