I talked numbers with the dealership today. They couldn't come close to getting near my trade value...so I am going to sell my truck myself and put that money down on it.
I also got the X-plan price. It didn't take off near as much as I expected. I probably could have haggled with them outright for a bigger discount. The papers aren't right in front of me, but it was only something like $2400 off.

Hmmmm... Something doesn't sound right.
Did you have a specific x-plan PIN number? There are a couple different x- plans (friends and family, Ford Partner, etc...). Your PIN will give you the real number.
All current incentives should apply on top of your current X-Plan.
I just bought a 15' DRW F350 Lariat and it was $11k total off of MSRP. Zero haggle so you're left to negotiate the extras.
It might be the XL package that limits how much off you get. I know the discounts are much deeper the higher the package.

I believe the answer is in your last sentence. Since I optioned a cheaper truck, there's not as much wiggle room.
I don't have a specific PIN yet, but it should be under the the Partner Plan (I work for a company that uses Ford and IH fleet vehicles). The dealership said they can look up my PIN and get me my x-plan number when the time comes.
And if anyone is still following this, should I go with cloth seats or the standard heavy duty vinyl? The two I test drove were cloth, and I've always owned trucks with cloth seats. I know vinyl will suck in the summer and winter months...lol
I wouldn't tell them you have x plan, then try to beat it by haggling. I get x plan but beat it substantially on the only new vehicle I've ever purchased (focus).
Go vinyl, the ease of cleaning makes that cold seat not so bad. Shoot with the exception of king ranch the vinyl may as well be leather (maybe not the new ones, but the leather in my 99 is pretty close to plastic)...
I ordered my truck with vinyl. Much easier to clean. I can occasionally get covered in grease and dirt while laying on the ground under a truck at work. I'd much rather be able to just grab a wet rag and wipe the seats off over having grease ruin the cloth. My last truck had cloth seats and they were permanently stained.
I'll never have cloth seats again. The whole reason I went for an XL over a higher trim level truck was for vinyl floors and seats.
Does anyone have some insight on this part of the X-Plan? Can the dealership charge a "Destination charge" on the vehicle in addition to the X-Plan's price? The reason I ask, is because I read this in the X-Plan's fine print:
The X-Plan price is the amount shown in the box labeled "X-Plan" near the bottom of the factory invoice. The New Vehicle Purchase Program price includes advertising, finance costs, transportation, fuel charges and Ford Motor Company administrative fees. The dealership may not charge extra for these items.
Does the word "transportation" in the quote mean "Delivery charge"?
I don't want the dealership charging me another $1200 if they are not supposed to...
You'd have to see how ford categorizes it, without seeing the rest I'd argue that does. The easy thing is to tell them you're not paying it and if they won't play there's another dealer that will.
i did the same thing last month when my POS 2005 dodge started dying. I configured the exact truck i wanted online and ended up finding almost the exact same thing at a local dealer.

its actually perfect for what i need in a hunting/camping vehicle. its got the power windows/locks/mirrors & cruise control that i have come to really like but its not blown out with crap i don't want like keyless entry, leather, heated seats, etc. i put a leer 100r cap on it and had it undercoated and put duraflap mud flaps on it so its ready for hunting season in PA.
the only thing i wish it had was the running lights on the roof and vinyl seats. but i put some big bath towels on the seats to keep them clean.
only have about 800 miles on it in town and back and forth over the mountains and its averaging 14.7 mpg which is better than the powerless dodge. and that 6.2 has plenty of get up and go.
so far, so good and i'm keeping my fingers crossed that this thing will be a good truck cause for the price, i plan on keeping it 10-15 years if possible.
one thing that pisses me off though. would it kill Ford to put some cup holders in the back seats? i mean come on man. they're cup holders. do i need to spend another $8k on xlt to get $2 cupholders?
There were two trucks that caught my eye. A new 2014 with the Cummins and 6-spd manual. Sticker was $49k but it was marked down to $38k and some change. I still don't think I want to deal with a diesel again....this time with emissions and DEF crap on top of it! Berglund Chrysler Jeep Dodge Roanoke Virginia new car dealer Roanoke Va
The second truck was more along my lines. Reg cab, long bed, 6.4L Hemi (I still want to research the history of this engine).
I also built a couple on Ram's web site. I can get more/better options with the Ram for cheaper, than I can with Ford.
Ford still has a much better fit and finish compared to the Ram though. Just opening and closing the doors on each truck is a world of difference. The Ford's higher price really shows with it's quality over Ram.

The DEF "crap" is a much better alternative than preceding designs. It permits meeting federal emissions laws without using crazy amounts of efficiency-robbing EGR. I'd much rather a truck with SCR than an older design that gets terrible fuel economy in comparison. For the most part these systems haven't caused many issues.
When buying with the x-plan (which I have done several times) the dealer is required to show you the shipping invoice.
It is real generic looking, like a computer print out for the order. It will show all the plans and prices. It goes into deal about each option and its price and then at the bottom....is the bottom line.
Now that establishes the purchase price. No haggle this is it.
Now you can still get all rebates offered and incentives for financing etc.
Also dealer fees are limited as well.
