Truck missing

Have a 2003 power stroke with 124000 miles with head studs and egr delete, no kind of tuner. I was hauling some calfs to the sale and it was running fine. Drove about 3 miles, stoped at a store for a few minutes, left running. When I pulled back on the road I couldn't build any speed, and was blowing black smoke pretty bad. Was in tow haul mode. It also had quite abit of turbo popping. Disconnected from the trailer and it ran better but still popped and smoked. No check engine lits of any kind came on. I appriciate any help on this problem. This is the first trouble I have had with this truck.
