It's too bad you didn't ask this question 4 years ago when you started working on your truck. Getting papers on an untitled vehicle over here is hard enough. You could be in a real world of hurt over there. Do you have any history on it, or know where it came from? Past owners would be your first avenue to find who legally owned it last.

I'll ditto Wayne's comments, and add that there might be hope since your truck has a CA registry. In CA the plates stay with a vehicle through any number of prior owners, where some other states assign new plates to each new owner. Unfortunately, probably 20 or more years ago US federal privacy laws were strengthened which ended our ability to do title searches through the various state Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) agencies. In the 1990s I was able to trace my home market Cooper S back to its prior owner's import of it into Florida. No longer possible through official channels. You might look for some CA legal assistance to see if there are any exceptions ever granted. Stu

What documents were used to clear Customs? I can't believe there wasn't something accompanying the truck that proved ownership.
