7 blades 5 wires

I've searched and haven't found an answer to my problem. Son-in-law has a 2010 F250 and recently purchased a car trailer. The trailer has 5 (black, red, white, green, yellow) wires going to a 7 blade plug. From experience and checking the trailer I'm confident that the green and yellow work the turn signals and the white is ground. I suspect the black is power and red is brakes and stop lights. The 250 wiring diagram shows separate wires for brakes and stop lights. Do I need to run another wire to the brakes or stop lights or can I just jump between two blades on the trailer plug to power the brakes and stop lights? Thanks

If the trailer doesn't have electric actuated brakes then the brake wire isn't needed.

You need a separate wire for the electric brakes. You have to use your brake controller that allows for variable voltage to operate the brakes.

I can't imagine not having brakes on a car trailer. You might check to see if the trailer is using surge brakes instead.

Here's the 7 pin diagram for reference.

If the trailer harness is only 5 wires then it doesn't have electric brakes.

The trailer does have electric brakes and the truck has a Ford installed brake controller. The trailer was previously pulled with a 2005 F150 with an aftermarket controller. I suspect the brakes and stop lights worked off the same wire connected to the "brake" spade on the 150's plug.

That's crazy. Pretty unsafe too.
Follow the wiring back and re-wire properly.
No jerry rigging here.

If the trailer doesn't have backup lights or a battery, 5 wires is all you need. They are:
1. Left turn
2. Right turn
3. Tail light
4. Brake controller wire
5. Ground

The left and right turn signal bulbs are also the brake lights. When you put on a turn signal you are simply flashing the brake light on that side.
