hi all
i have 2000 f 250 and i since i have had it i have never had park light on any trailer, this past weekend i went to pull a trailer and the trailer brakes were locked up as soon as it was plugged in. i plugged the trailer in to my buddies truck and the brakes were released. I have brakes lights, flashers and both turn signals. I have used another tralier with brakes and they worked fin once i adjusted the pressure. Have any ideas, or some where that i could take it to get it fixed. thank you for all your help jeremy
You are using a six pin trailer... the 12v and the brake wire are swapped on 50% of them. There are two different standards. Either you are using two different adapters or his truck is wired for the other standard. Best solution would be to rewire both the truck and trailer with the 7 pin plug, which is universal. Other solution would be to swap the brake and 12v wires in your adapter, which is usually very easy since this is a very well known issue. If you aren't using adaptors, another idea would be to rewire the trailer plug to swap those two wires.
These solutions only apply if you are using a 6 pin plug... if you are not, we need to brainstorm differently.
On some trailers the 12volt wire (black) and the brakes ( blue) will be swapped blue is 12v and black is brakes.
12v has power at anytime so when u plug the trailer plug in and the wires are backwards it sends power right to the brakes. And then your 12v would only work when u step on the brakes.LOL
I have found its most common on like horse trailers or campers w/ the round 6pin.
Most of your car haulers or equipment trailers have the flat 7 way and their 12v black wire and brakes is blue.
