ignition switch

ignition switch

I ordered an ignition switch for my truck from Green Sales and they sent me the unit with blade terminals. This is on my 1970 Crew Cab. I removed my old switch and it has the round pin type terminals. I've heard some say the blade terminals are better. I don't mind swapping out the wiring for the blade type switch as it seems my 1970 should have this type. Is there a source for the correct female terminals and plug to fit the blade terminal switch?

This came up in another thread just yesterday. ND and I both remember Ford part number D1AZ11572C used to come with the pigtail you are asking about. They didn't service the pigtail separate. Just in this kit. Someone chimed in they heard Ford does still supply that part number but now it doesn't come with the pigtail. ND basically said Hogwash. So I looked at the one we have here in stock to prove he and I correct. It's no pigtail and pin style rather than the blade style it's supposed to be. I figured ours was boxed wrong. So I had a local Motorcraft Distributor deliver to me one of theirs. In their box was the same as ours. No pigtail and pin style. They are showing 24 of them in stock. If you want I can call them and have them look inside their boxes and find one that is correct (blade type and has a pigtail). PM me if you don't find an aftermarket pigtail.

Thanks, I missed that post.

I called Sunbury Motors and they didn't have any pigtails in the box.

And I called that Motorcraft distributor (USD) that Bill mentioned in that other thread. 20 out of their 20 do NOT have it either. I know it used too. That's the only way Ford serviced that pigtail.

TWO different ignition switches were used in 1970. The serial number is the last 6 digits of the VIN / When you contacted Green, did they ask you for your VIN? Probably not.

1968/69 and 1970 F100/750 before serial number G90,001: D1AZ-11572-C .. Ignition Switch (Motorcraft SW-1054) / Available from Ford.

This switch is the "service part replacement" for the POS original C8AZ-11572-A switch that shorted out and caught fire!

Originally this switch came w/a pigtailed wire harness/plug, so the wires could be spliced to the dash harness.

Back then there were no mandatory US Gov't recalls. FoMoCo sent the dealers a "campaign letter" advising them of the problem and the fix. It was then up to the dealers to contact the customers.

Some dealers did, some did not. But some customers, when contacted...never responded to having their vehicles fixed under this recall warranty...so the POS original switch could still be present.

Since JEFFFAFA has this switch, ask him if it has blades or not, because I cannot remember.

I found the plug I needed with the flat blade terminals I have a source. I got one from a buddy that sells used parts. He has several of the plugs with flat blades and the round pins. Let me know if you anyone else needs one and I'll forwaed his contact info.

Does anyone know where to find the OEM style terminals Ford used for the ignition switch connector? The junkyard blade type pigtail I have for my ignition switch has the resister wire going all the way to the terminal that plugs onto the ign. switch terminal. I want to remove the female terminal from the connector and install a new female terminal on a new 14 gauge wire so I can then connect that to the resistor wire in my truck.

Has anyone ever removed the blade type terminals from the connector on the rear of the ignition switch. I've tried with several thin blades and cannot move it. I'm I correct that I have to insert a thin blade into the front of the connector?

The have several wire sizes available.

Does anyone have any experience and/or tips on crimping these.

I order a couple of them but said 3-4 days before they would be in. So this was the only missing link to having it back up and running again.

I was with 1 block from PnP and went an bagged the HEI ign wire from a Chevy truck.
It's also Pink so removed the resistor wire from my ford ign switch plug snapped the chevy #10ga. wire and back up and running. I ended up leaving in there and just kept the extra clips I ordered for spares.

I forgot about the Chevy HEI wire having the same type of terminal. I ordered a handful of the locking terminals from Belmetric yesterday. They shipped them the same day. I'll post some pics when I switch it out.
