Let me start be saying I'm a car noob. I was driving in Betty my 73 f250 360 4 speed and all of a sudden she started sputtering and died. I got under the hood and pumped the throttle manually and she started up got ten feet down the road and died again. It feels like there is no fuel getting to the engine, but as I said I'm still learning. Any ideas? Please help.
x2 on the 1st two suggestions to ck? Or maybe the fuel pump died?
Purchase a Chilton or Hanes manual for cheap at the parts store for your truck, it will have some troubleshooting steps. And help with the truck noob-ness.
Could also be a clogged fuel sending unit, pick up tube sock filter (in the tank). But there are easier things to check 1st like fuel filter....then the fuel pump.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. The fuel pump was making a ticking noise from time to time. I'm assuming that might have been the sound of a slow death?
Usually they work then just die. Not hard to change a mechanical fuel pump, it is covered by the basic Chilton manual. Also replace a few inline fuel filters and but some fresh gas and see what it does.
Also ck your soft lines by the eng side fuel pump and the soft lines back by the fuel sending unit, to be dry rotted and cracked and sucking air.
