I purchased hedman fenderwells for my 408 build, and now after receiving them it looks like they may not work. It looks to me like they are going to run square into the cab mounts (narrow 77 highboy frame). Does anyone have experience with this narrow frame and hedder installation? can I make these work or do I need new headers? if I need new ones which are a fit?
Yep looks are deceiving, a 73-79 are the same width in the front across the board and the highboys 73-77.4 are only narrow in the rear frame rails.
It will be close on the front cab mount brackets that stick off the frame maybe just grind off a 1/8" at the most on the edge closest to the headers?
Also before you install them, flip around the direction the front leaf springs rear mount bolt goes in. After headers are installed it will not be able to be removed without taking the headers off. Or just make sure the nut is on the header side.
Just take the weight off remove the nut and tap out and flip the direction, so once the headers are installed and if you need to remove the springs (say for a lift later on) you can.
Also taking off the dvrs side shock tower and brake line clamp will make is a easier. And then just put the tower back on.
