Well, I was able to pick up a "new to me" truck. Got a 2012 F-250 Lariat Crew Cab 4x4 long bed with the 6.2 gasser. Had the 6.2 in the last truck I had. Used it to pull a rather heavy 24' enclosed trailer from Missouri to Alaska and was very impressed with it. That truck had 4.10's so that helped. The new truck is fitted with 3.73's which should suffice for me now!! Other than putting some studs and a block heater on it, it should be ready to go! I think it has most everything I should ever need!! I may not get much use out of the cooled seats being in Alaska, though!!
I lived at eielson afb up by Fairbanks Alaska and never worried about studs. But if that's what you want more power to ya
I've run studs since first moving up here 12 years ago. If I didn't go out of town as much as I do, I wouldn't worry about it but since I do, studs do add to the piece of mind a bit.
Studs are nice to have in Fairbanks, as we encounter lots of ice that sticks around all year. Best thing to do is wait for somebody to sell their studded tires/wheels leftover from a vehicle sale. Usually you can get a nice set with little miles for 50% or less of retail.
With the extra set of rims, it's an easy change over twice a year that doesn't cost you a thing and it will feel like you get twice as many miles out of your summer tires.
Congrats and best of luck to you down in Anchorage. You can complain all you want about your miserable 70 degrees. I will keep you in mind when we hit -40.
