Don't press on the brake pedal with the drums off. It will pop the pistons right out of the cylinders. Inspect the lining and put the drums on. turn the drums with your hands and have someone slowly press on the pedal. when or if the drum stops turning, tell the pedal pusher to remember that position of the pedal and try the other one. the pedal should feel the same for both. I would bet that the brakes are out of adjustment.
Don, you can press on the pedal with the drums off to see if the wheel cylinders are good, you just have to do it gently. all you want ot do is see if the pistons move, not stomp ont he pedal and make the pistons shoot out of the cylinders.

That's right, you and I can do it but you forget that he doesn't have the experience that we do. I am trying to guide him with the safest way to do it.
I replaced the adjustor on the passenger side last week. It was totally seized up. Also the brake hardware kit comes in a left and right side. I also needed the spring that goes on the plate which rubs against the adjustor. You need to buy the whole kit just to get the spring.

good to see your getting it worked out. Yes you do need the whole kit but it's probably best that way. When you put the drum back on there is a small rubber grommet located right behind the adjuster. You can use a screw driver to adjust the rears before first drive
