In my experience International, Dodge and Chrysler products used the left hand thread up into the early seventies here in Australia,
Chrysler cars and the Dodge and International pickups however I haven't seen them on post 70 Ford pickups here unless a Dana rear axle out of a Dodge or International was placed into an F series pickup as a replacement.
In theory it's not a bad idea, if the user is aware of the difference, however the cost of using 2 differing threads on studs would have had the bean counters haemorrhaging!

I'm the original owner of a 1976 F350 Supercab camper special, 460/C6, and the left-hand rear wheel had left-hand lug nuts. That was the only wheel so configured. When I installed my Alcoa wheels, I replaced the left-hand wheel studs with right-hand because Alcoa did not have left-hand lug nuts/caps.
