tHANKS to all who looked at my post. I found Bruce, in Indiania who is sending a Title and VIN.tag for a 54 and also Al,in Virginia has a 53 that he is sending. Whichever one will work I will return the other. Thanks again Jim VA. ps. I think I can stop pulling out my hair now!
Jim, That's good to hear. Sounds like you might have yer problem resolved shortly.
(On another note, Don't the mid fifties trucks also have the VIN numbers stamped on the frames? My 50 F1 does, and also had a VIN tag on the inside glove box door and Firewall. Are you only replacing the inside glovebox door VIN tag? Would VA give you any more headaches if your frame and glove box door VIN tags did not jive? Hope this doesn't produce a new problem for you.)
Ron; Thanks for the tip,But When I cut off the old frame rail to install the 79 Nova front end ,that section of the frame by the steering box is gone. The only ID will be on the glove box door from now on. Jim VA
i am from va also, i am sure that none of our "dedicated" dmv workers would check, that might require work, which is something they know little of. besides you do not have to bring the truck with you.
Hey, listen to this...I bought my '60 F100 in Indiana in December, and I live in Ohio. When I went to the BMV to title it, they gave me the same business, and I even had a title.
What I had to do was go to a car dealership that did VIN searches on out of state vehicles to check for any theft reports. All they did was looked at the VIN on the glovebox, asked me a few questions and filled out a form that verified the truck was not reported stolen. With that, I ran back to the BMV and got it titled! No prob.
I bet that's what you have to do. Get ahold of a salvage yard or the State Highway Patrol. If they are too busy (sometimes you have to schedule an appointment for crying out loud), they can tell you who else does that. Whoever does official VIN searches can come to you, but I said heck with it and drove it over to the place! No license plates....and no registration! HA!
Thanks to all!! I now have a (53) F100 on the road!!! I will try again at another time to ge the truck dually registered as what it is a (54). until then we are going trucking!!!! WEE HAW. I just hope all that work I did holds up. Jim VA.
