My left brake light quit working yesterday. The right one works fine and the running lights on both sides work. Anyone have a suggestion on what to check first? I went ahead and replaced the bulb just to make sure it was good but no luck.
They joys of wiring in these older vehicles. Since one brake light works, that pretty much eliminates the switch. I would be starting at the tail light and checking connections back from there.
Has your wiring been cut into a bunch, say for trailer lights, etc. If so, I would eye those areas closely.
Also you might want to print out a copy of the wiring diagram and kind of follow the path of the correct circuit/wire. Ford Truck Technical Drawings and Schematics - Section H - Wiring Diagrams
These diagrams have consumed much of my attention where troubleshooting wiring issues.
Appreciate the help. Right after I posted the question I went out and started at the wiring and just like you suggested there is a trailer wiring harness spliced in and the problem was a bad connection. Fixed the splice and things are good.
