Headlight Sockets

Hello all been busy with hunting, life etc and am just getting busy on the resto again....I'm trying to wrap up some lose ends and came across my two headlight harnesses and noticed that the head light sockets where missing....after much thought i finally remembered that my wires would not stay in the plugs.....I received some part numbers and sources for just the plastic socket for my truck but they where different than the ones i had originally.......The original ones where kind of rounded in appearance and the way the wires secure into the original socket is different than the replacements, the replacements are really square in shape. I would have to replace the ends on the wire.......I am curious if the earlier sockets 77 and back are different???? I have pulled some from a JY they are all rounded as my original with the same problem (wire wont stay in). I have a 78 F250 400m manual it was built in November of 77. I want to stay away from changing the ends of the wire if possible.

Any help would be appreciated Pat
