Some Low Life...

Even though nobody (my family and I) got hurt, I'm still mad about it. I wish I could have seen that low life scum. Since he had a knife (my custom knife), maybe I would have been justified in capping his @ss! "Officer, the scum came at me with a knife so I capped him.Uh, yes. The knife belonged to me." All these "what if". You guys are helping me deal with this better. Thanks for your suggestions.

As far as alarms go, I have a Viper 790 XV. It has tons of sensors, gadgets, etc. that can be added on. Has a remote start that works great to let your vehicle continue to idle after a run. Lets that turbo cool off. I forget all of the specs, but I have mine set at a 12 minute run time. The alarm is set the whole time and bypasses different zones if they are disturbed as you set the alarm. (i.e. start the truck remotely/leave it running- alarm doesn't go off, but is still armed) Furthermore, it has the responder which is a small pager like device, not much bigger than the stock keyless fob, that has a 1/4 mile range and tells you what zones are tripped when. Gives you complete control. Had Tweeter do the install and they did a primo job. No issues that it was suggested that I would have with the interior cab lights. Can you tell I am more than happy with this thing? By the way, if I replicate a car door bumping the truck with my fist, it sets off a softer than loud warning and lets me know via the Responder. If I do this repeatedly and/or a bit harder, it goes full out immediately and I get a different warning. As far as sounds/rumbles, neither thunder nor professional fireworks have set it off. No false alarms. If it ever does, say a thunderstorm, if it sets it off 3 times within 60 minutes, it is temporarily bypassed. It monitors that channel and won't re-arm it until the disturbance has passed, and you know about the whole thing. Hope this helps and sorry if it is too long.

Thanks! I'll definitely look into the Viper system. I just worry that the installer will hack up the wiring. That's one of my peeves... hacked wiring. I'll have to skip the remote start as the truck is a 5spd manual.

sorry about your truck dude. i know how you feel. trust me, it could be worse. some scum took my cd's too. they were in the truck when the scumbag drove it away. i can sympathize with you, i know how it feels. talk about violated. makes you want to keep a huge pit bull in the cab. or a chiwawa. they are both eqaully vicious.

no problem on the info/review... unfortunately anyone that wants the truck will have it regardless of what you have protecting it. (although a .45 will tend to make them think twice) A determined thief is on top of the game, but at least with the responder you have a decent range and they cannot get to it without at least setting off a warning. At this point, you are aware that something is going on via the key fob. It's better than nothing and imho is worth the expenditure even w/o remote start. Just my .02

The real kicker is a week before I returned from Kuwait, my car was broken into in my driveway in the middle of the night. My mother forgot to lock it. They stripped it of anything valuable and did close to 2k in damage. Next time, I will be at home, have the responder go, and a rottweiler and .45 Glock 21 waiting. Call the cops and have the punks picked up... but their time in my custody won't be pleasant.

You can get remote starters that work on standard transmissions. Of course, you'll have to leave it in neutral with the parking brake on. At least one I've seen monitors current draw at startup so if you were to leave it in gear the starter load is much greater and current monitor either blows a fuse or disables the remote start. Some shops ask you to sign a waver before they'll install one on a standard, but I know lots of guys who have them without any problems.
