Some low life broke into my wife's 2000 Ford Crew Cab! She noticed that the CD's were missing from the center console and thought I took them out before I brought the truck in to get the tires mounted. My custom knife was also pilfered. I took a look around the door locks and door windows to see if there were any scratches. Then I realized that the low life went through the sliding rear window. I still don't know what the scum used to pry it open. The only real damage to the window was the latch. Part of it broke off.
Has anyone else had this unfortunate event happen to their truck with a sliding rear window? The latch at least appears to be made of metal (pot metal, but metal nonetheless). I'll call the dealership to get a new latch. I think I'll wedge a rod in the track to keep it more secured. I guess a plastic rod would suffice. I'm speculating that this is a known method for thieves to access trucks in general.
Sorry to hear that u got broken into. Why not get an alarm system w/ a sensor for the back window? I hate thieves and take many steps to keep what goes on my truck.
my rear sliders is sensored.
There is a little sticker on the bottom of the slider (in white 1/3" letters) that says "Nothing in this truck is worth your life" on the left slider. The right slider says "This truck is equiped with a paging silent alarm".
Back in my jeep days, I used to leave a piece of paper sticking out of my stereo (when parked) that said "Tom, the stereo is broken, sorry -Mike". Of course the stereo worked....and was alwasy there when I came back. (Maybe I need to do the stickers in other languages now?)
I use 1/4" or 3/8" wood dowels from HomeDepot or anywhere. Much cheaper and they work.
One night at a bar, a friend locked his keys in his truck. He was frantic. I asked him if he had a rear slider and he did. Let's just say that I could have been in the truck and gone before anyone saw it. It took all of, well, about that long to get it.
get an alarm and always keep your truck within "line of sight" of your position... just have the AR-15 with lazer sight within arms reach.. works like a charm..
ps. two pointers.. take um in the calves then go out and zip tie them up and let the police have them.. less legal issues for yourself than if you went with the head shot... #2.. never take your truck to the movies.. very vunrable out of earshot and dont leave it overnight in places out of earshot that are unsecure..
good luck

Well you can look at it like this.....All he broke was the rear window latch. He could have smashed in a window or worse... sorry about the custom knife and the cds...at least ya still have your truck and no one was hurt
The latch costs about $40. I placed a dowel in the track to keep it secured. I'm thinking of getting an alarm w/ a sensor for that back window. I also plan on a truck cap in the future, so I want the alarm wiring set up for the hatch. Can anyone recommend an alarm? I hate alarms that set of whenever a loud vehicle rolls by. I guess there is a sensitivity switch?
