Suggestions for new tires
I've got a 2005 Ford F250 6.0 powerstroke crewcab diesel FX4 Lariate in need of new tires. Current tires are eight year old BF Goodrich Rugged Trail T/As, LT265/70/R17. I've got a hare over 1/4" of tread on them but the rubber is degrading (hundreds of micro-cracks all along the whitewall area).
I live in west-central Wisconsin and we have significant snow/ice on the ground from late November through mid March. I'd like an all-terrain tire that performs well in snowy conditions. My truck doesn't see many miles driven per year, maybe 5k (low end) to 8k (high end) miles per year. The vast majority of those miles are on paved roads. We use the truck to haul our two-horse trailer a dozen times per year, and to pick up the occasional load of hay/feed.
The current tires have never performed well in the snow (even when they were new). Small inclines in a road that my wife's commuter car could easily handle would require 4-wheel drive on my truck or the wheels would just spin. Last winter I couldn't even get up our slightly sloped driveway with just a few inches of snow on the ground due to lack of traction (yet my wife's car had no problems).
So, i'd like a tire that performs well in the snow during winter, but also performs decently during non-winter months. And preferably a tire that will last (if all three of those are even possible).
Looking for some suggestions for a new tire.
Thanks!

I have run lots of options, BFG AT KO were good in the the snow, snowflake rated M and S tire! didn't get a lot of Milies out of them. Best so far is Good Year Duratracs M and S and snowflake rated, these tires are excellent in all bad road conditions. Only thing you may not like is perhaps increased road noise. I live in Northern BC Canada, so I know bad road conditions. We are required to have snowflake rated winter tires from October 1st to March 31st. Most people use take off rims and use a winter tire and change to summer tire, but I am using one tire year round, I make trips through mountain passes and encounter snow and ice on a regular basis so for me a good tire is important. Can't just turn around and change tires all the time.

I just ordered the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 285/65R18
"tires meet industry severe snow service requirements and are branded with the mountain/snowflake symbol."
They come out Nov. 1
