Question Tire Recommendations

I am needing some recommendations on new tires. My truck is a '98 F-150, Lariat. I currently have 245/75x16 on there, but I am wanting to go up to 265/75x16.

The vast majority of my driving is on the road, and I do not have 4 wheel drive. I have some no-name tires on there now that came from the dealer, but I get terrible traction in the wet with them. I would like a tire that would give me good traction in wet and snow, but not necessarily full knobby's.

Someone recommended to me the Goodyear Wrangler RTS', but on-line reviews are pretty sketchy for that tire. So I would glady welcome any insight/recommendations that y'all might have. Plus, I am not a "big truck/car guy". Just an average joe who needs to get more tires. Price range would be $400-650 range for set of 4

Thanks y'all

Bridgestone Dueler REVO.

Outstanding tire, great tread life, all weather traction. Go to 1010 tires or Tire rack, put the tire size you want and type of tire (Iassume all season) it will come up with a list of tires in that size with ratings for wear, road noise, wet, & snow traction.

Real mud tires (knobbies) are basically useless on a 2x4 for ice. Most At treads will do okay in snow, where you get stuck is icy patches. For ice/snow I do not think you can beat the Blizzac (however you spell it) tires for traction. One tire that was really good on the ice that I have driven in 2x4 was the BFG AT KO. In a snow state you want a tire rated with the (*) mark which basically means you get a heavily siped tire.

If you can change your own tires and do not do a lot of highway miles, you are better off in the long run putting real snow tires on your truck just for the winter and then changing the tires/rims for the summer after the snow has passed (usually April 1st). That way you get at least two good seasons from the tires. I know from using studs and other types of snow tires, after two years the performance goes down hill after they have worn down a bit.

I have not bought new snow tires since 2001 (I moved to GA) so I have not been able to test the latest offerings. Consumer Reports does test tires and I would trust their reviews for that product.

thanks reb---but i do a lot of highway driving on my tires---even in the snow/winter. i aint worried too much about the ice, since i figure thats what my sick days are for at work--haha. just needing something to give me good traction in wet/snow. wife and i do a lot of camping and stuff in the mountains, so nice to be able to do minor off-roading (mainly gravel roads, etc.)

I put a set of BF Goodrich All Terrain TA-ko's on my Ranger (245-75/16) and love them, GREAT wet traction! They are replacing the Goodyear Wrangler RT-S, which is one of the worst tires I have ever owned. The BFG's ($602.00 for 4, installed with the "extras") are a bit loud, but handle great - I highly recommend them!
