Hi all. I have a '95 F150 with a 302 in it, 4x4 with 5 speed stick. The problem is strange so here goes. Runs good and eats gas as all 5 L motors do but when I drive around 20 miles an error shows up on my odometer which is digital. It reads "Error.3" which flashes between the milage and the error every few seconds. Then it gets more strange, after about 40 miles all this changes. The odometer display at this point shows "Error" solid.
The only good thing about all this is the gas milage gets a bit better from here on till i turn off the motor at which point the error
goes away. Did a KOEO and no codes show up...HELP! I'd be grateful for any info...thanx
I checked the post and have a question. I have run the same tire size on this truck for 5 years now (31's) and the error just started a few weeks ago. To me that is strange. Maybe my odometer is just failing or its something else.
The PSOM was discontinued because some of them interfered with the engine. Yours seems to be dying, so I'd recommend looking for a replacement. Ford only sells it WITH the whole instrument cluster for ~$300, but you can get a used one on eBay for $40-100 or at a junkyard for about the same.
Thanx steve83 I'll look for one. The only thing that worries me is that plastic crap ford used to hook up all the guages and lights. It seems kinda fragile and with my luck it would break. In any event I'll start looking. Thanx again.
It's MUCH sturdier than you might think. I've opened plenty of them, and I've never broken anything. Just be gentle when you're prying them out of the cluster - they're retained by their terminals that stick thru the film circuit.
