I have not found any info that might help me with it. I turn on the key with the reset? (one of the buttons) down, and it reports an E 03 while doing the gauge sweep, but without some kind of code table for it, that's a useless piece of info.
The only other unhappy thing going on in the gauges themselves is my speedo is wrong (about 20% out), but the van is also equiped with 215/70R14 rather than the proper 215/75R14's.
My RABS light is stuck on, but I was going to tackle that at a later date. The red brake light does not light in any circumstance (likely a bulb). My check engine light lights up occasionally, and my rpm's are high (as in 30MPH high) but again, something I was going to look at over the course of the next couple weeks as I got time. I just bought the thing accidently a couple weeks ago (put my hand up at the wrong time during an auction) but it seems to be mostly the electrical stuff, which I am pretty good at. Just find that a code of E03 is useless for troubleshooting without something to reference it to.
The error 3 means that the programmeable speedometer needs an conversion constant programmed into it. If you want I can probably email you instructions on doing this.
Thanks. Is there a list of those codes anywhere for the public?
I have seen the instructions for that - you have to jumper something (off the top of my head I can't remember, but it was near the glove box), then youhold down the reset and turn on the vehicle, and use the buttons to program it in. It's a 1000 value now, which I assumed was correct for the proper tires.
I have been tempted to change it for the tires that are on there now, but I feel if the van thinks I am going 20%+ faster than I really am, it's implied that the motor/drivetrain is turning that much faster, and I am getting worse milage.
According to what i can find in the manual your conversion constant should be 10.23 for your size of tires. If you need the instructions for changing it let me know.
It is a black with orange single wire behind the passenger's side kick panel.
Re-program speed conversion constant using the following procedure: Locate the dealer mode programming enable connection. It is located behind the cowl side trim panel .Insert metal clip in service wire panel connector. Clip other end to vehicle ground while the key is in the OFF position.Turn key to RUN (not crank) position while holding down the trip odometer RESET button on speedometer . Release RESET button.Speedometer will prove out (sweep across dial and back). The English/Metric and revision levels will be displayed.
The last number on the right side of display is the reprogramming lockout count. This count shows the number of allowable conversion constants remaining. When the count is zero, no additional changes can be made to this instrument cluster . If a conversion constant change is necessary, a service instrument cluster must be ordered.Press and release RESET button again and PSOM conversion constant (without the decimal point) followed by the word CAL.Press and release the odometer SELECT button as many times as necessary to change conversion constant to the correct value.
NOTE: Pressing and releasing the RESET button to lock in the new conversion constant removes the number of times the PSOM can be re-programmed by one count. The module can only be re-programmed six times. If it is determined the original conversion constant is satisfactory, turn the key to OFF BEFORE the new constant is locked in.
When the correct new value is displayed in odometer window, press and release the RESET button to lock in the new conversion constant.Turn the key off and remove the ground wire. Verify proper operation of the speedometer .
Do you know the behavior of the PSOM when it's maxed out?
I took the kick panel off - there was a single black with a hint of maybe orange connector and a 4 wire connector, I grounded the single wire connector and got the same behavior - fire it up with the reset down, and the needle does the sweep and I get a E 03. Press reset again, and I get the 1000CAL, with the cal part blinking. The select button does nothing, and it acts the same grounded or not.
I took the entire dash apart looking for it in the f-150 location :-(. The good news is that I got the dash really clean (down the vents, etc)
The 1000CAL means the constant is set at 10.00. If it doesnt change when you press the rest button I would assume that it has been changed 6 times and cant be again but I'm not positive. I dont know what it would look like other than what it says in the instructions above about the lockout count.
