Anybody ever take theirs off? I plan on removing mine completely tomorrow. Basically I was out in the woods, somebody had put a square tube post in the ground that stuck up about 3 inches....I didn't see it and it nailed my front left tire. So I got the spare tire mounted on the good rim, and don't plan to use that space for the spare tire anymore. My reasons are once the stock tires wear out and I have to buy new ones, then the wife already said I could pick out some sweet wheels and tires!!! I am thinking about throwing 35s on it with 18's, but I heard that anything bigger then the tire that comes on the truck won't fit in the spare tire carrier. At this point I don't want to just carry around spare weight and have something on my truck I'm not going to use.
Ok so I found out today that the metal frame piece that the tire gets held onto is wielded onto the actual frame. I was able to remove the winding piece and the plastic tube thing. I'll hold onto all the pieces including the rim until somebody wants to buy it or needs it.
I had a 35x12.5 underneath on my old 2002 F250. It fit with stock exhaust (tight), but did not fit with aftermarket 4" exhaust. I haven't tried it on my current truck and I'm not sure what size my factory spare is.
