Brake problems.

Hey guys I'm in need of some quick help, front rotor and caliper needs replaced on my '87 F250 and I cannot figure out how to get that hub off. Stock Dana 44. I know the hub and rotor are pressed together but can't get it off to press it apart, I have the lockout off and have the small snap ring off the end of the shaft but that's all the farther I've gotten. Thanks for any help and any useful links would be helpful as well

You still need to remove the 2 nuts and washers then if all you've removed is the lockout and snap ring...clean it up some and look in there....

on mine, you had to push the socket in to loosen the lock nut, It was spring loaded. its an 89, so it was a late model d44hd. the Haynes manual showed atleast 2-3 different styles used.

Make sure you properly tension the bearings when you put it back together. The best way for preloading the timkin bearings is to tighten up the 1st spanner nut to about 40-50 ftlbs while totating the rotor so as to seat the bearing then back it off a bit and by hand run the nut up so it is just barely hand tight, a touch loose is better than too tight. (Note: the manual specifies to tighten to 50 ftlbs using the above procedure and then back off 45 degrees.I have always done it by the above method because it is less vague.) then put in your lock ring if it doesnt want to go on over the lock tab on the spanner nut pull it off and flip it over. you can then tension the outer spanner lock nut to 150 ftlbs.
