Wrong Steering Wheel
And that steel turn signal cam cancel from the 71/77 isn't compatible. .. been there, tried that. But if you do get it to work, post up your mod cuz me and prolly others will want to know exactly how ya did it.
And if the horn will not sound with the 78/79 wheel, install a jumper wire across the steering ("rag") joint to complete the horn's ground circuit.
Yep, I pretty certain it was a later wheel, best one I couldfind though. There were two earlier wheels but they were hammered beyond repair. For the price, I couldn't pass it up. I looked at the earlier wheel where thesignal cam came from and it was about 1/8th smaller in circumference. My guessis the tension pops it off or won't allow it to go on. I was going to work onthis weekend and see if I could come up with a solution. Interestingly enough, the later wheel looks just like my Maverick’s (on the bottom side that is). Thatand I compared several wheels while I was down there, I found a 75 Econolineand it was exactly the same wheel with exactly the same signal switch and steeringstalk. That’s where I got the drive selector cover. Should be interesting tosee if I can get the cam to work. Also, I do have one question, I forgot tomark the cam location relative to the signal switch. Does it sit between thetwo return prongs or on the opposite side of the wheel near the hazard switchin the straight forward position? BTW,thanks for the heads up on the horn. Was inop before, so it’ll be a bonus if Iget it to work!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com

>Why don't you just grab a 78/79 column and replace the one in your truck ? That's what i did in my 73, I put a 79 tilt in it , bolted right up. You need the 78/79 lower column cover with it if you do it to make it look right.__

>There is a gap between the steering wheel and collar but fora $16 dollar repair, including a decent wheel with no cracks and good horn pad,I’m pretty satisfied. I’ll continue looking for the “correct” wheel but like Isaid, for now, this will do just fine. I’ll work on the horn next, I bet I’ll need theground jumper but didn’t have time to install and test this morning. <o
