I have a F-250 4WD with 7.5L which has a MC/Holley 4180c sitting on top. It was getting very poor mpg (like 5-6 miles/gal) and then was getting harder and harder to start. This progressed rather quickly to not starting with fuel coming out of the primary vent tube. I suspect it has to do with the primary float stuck open. I was considering rebuilding the carburetor. Is this over reaction prematurely or is there something like float adjustment that may rectify all of the symptoms described. If a rebuild is in order what is the information I would need to ensure getting the correct rebuild kit. Info that I have so far from research is it is Motorcraft ID #E5HE-9510-MC. Thanks, in advance and any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated.
The carb # you have is what you need E5HE-9510-MC [ Holley # 50262-2 ] at any parts store . I use Holley kits when I can get them . Have you rebuilt any carbs before ? There are a lot of U tube stuff on carb rebuilding . If it has not been rebuilt in a while , I would rebuild it.
Yeah, that was what I was thinking and leaning towards...I can't say when it was last rebuilt, I'm not original owner and was thinking it would be best just to rebuild it. I have rebuilt carbs before but must confess...it has been nearly two decades since rebuilding last one. Did that when working for a "ma & pop" repair shop when I took a break from working as a paramedic for a year or two in the mid-90's. I do plan to view some rebuild posts on YouTube along with reviewing and refreshing other resources I have for rebuilding carbs. Since posting my original I have learned that I have all the info I need to get the correct rebuild kit. I found a Holley rebuild kit for the 4180c for 50 bucks at AutoZone. Don't think I'll find a better price than that after comparing prices to several different sources. Thanks for your input and response. Bill.

Thanks for all the advice and input. I do plan to take my time and to be meticulous in the disassembly process. I also had thought of taking pictures during the whole process. I plan to buy the rebuild kit within the next few days and getting started on it by the end of next week. I have a teenage son who is anxious to help and learn and I this as a great opportunity to teach him a few things. I'll keep y'all posted during the process of the rebuild. Bill
