As I am going through my newly acquired 78' F250 6.6l I notice my carb is leaking gas from many areas-everywhere metal/metal contact-not gas lines. As someone with limited mechanical knowledge, is my best bet buying a rebuild kit or a re-manufactured carb? Just looking to keep the truck stock and running normally, not increasing performance.
Always rebuild the one you've got; don't go on a wild goose-chase with remanufactured carburetors. If you can build a model car, you can rebuild a carburetor.
You'll need carburetor cleaner, kerosene, a few cans of B-12, a good rebuild kit, and an afternoon.
I dived in without much knowledge a few years ago...not good. I didn't make much progress. I have learned a lot since them, particularly this winter. Now I'm hooked on the 2150 to the point I'm thinking about making a thread about rebuilding the 2150 the right way with lots of pics.

Thanks for info. Can you suggest a good source for a rebuild kit?
I saw a NAPA kit and it seems pretty good. So I'd buy a kit from NAPA. But most universal kits I've used were fine. Make sure you have the right carburetor & application. Make sure you're putting on what it needs. The carburetor may be not original, too...
Make sure you get the THICK reinforced gasket from the carburetor to the EGR spacer. Otherwise, the EGR heat will kill the carburetor. Clean out the EGR & the EGR spacer if deemed necessary.

Thanks. It is for sure the OEM carb. Nothing has been done on this truck.
