Center armrest / console thing snapped inside?

Center armrest / console thing snapped inside?
Yeah...
So when I had my old 2002 7.3 truck, the center armrest was spongy. Rest any weight on it, and it would sink down. Almost like the hinge snapped inside or something.
I never knew what it's deal was, but I never fixed it, because it didn't really matter.
Then, I get my 2008 6.4 truck. Center console feels tight. One day I get in, it's cold out, I think I rested my arm on it or something. Snapped, now it's spoungy too.
And the 2008 6.4 truck I just bought for my conversion project, it's arm console is exactly the same way.
So, what is the issue with these things?
It would be nice to be able to have one that you can put weight on without it snapping inside.
