Slicks in Hollywood

I was watching an old episode of the Walking Dead this week and noticed the truck on the farm was a style side slick. Also, noticed in True Detective that the bad guy drove a flare side slick. I love seeing Hollywood use these trucks as props. I can't help but think that some of our members provide the trucks. Has anyone out there done that? I'd love to hear the stories and how they found you.

Steve, first off, Thank you for your service, I see you are a Navy Vet. And secondly, yes I love seeing these trucks in movies, sometimes I get more excited seeing a truck of this era than the movie itself sometimes. It would be cool to hear some stories if some of the members were approached.

My favorite part of movies are when I point out a slick or bump side truck. I know there are some threads on here about famous movie trucks. I know there was a bump side crew cab that is a member on here was used in a Canadian country music video? I believe it was.

I LOVED watching the Rockford Files. There is a 65 slick in the new sitcom Neighbourhood. I was also recently watching Taken 3 where a 1964 Flareside was in a scene that allowed the good guy to escape in a floor drain under where it was parked. The chasers then had to push it out of the way to discover the drain.

I am certain that there are many slick shots in old shows from the 60's and 70's. Fugitve probably had lots.

The new Canadian filmed show Rust Valley Restorers has had several slicks in the background. I hope you Americans get that show on History Channel.

The series Justified, if it was a truck it was a 60's ford. Mr Majestic is another good one.

I have never heard of either of those shows. I did not have the luxury of cable TV until 1987 so any shows from the 60's/70's were reruns if available.

Someone has shown that Majestic clip on here before. A 65 twin I Beam that lacks the holding clip on top of the spring in front could not do that. Maybe I saw the clip over on Fordification...

There are companies that have fleets of vehicles that are provided to movie companies for a fee of course. I am talking about thousands of choices. If a movie company has a particular vehicle they want and the providing company does not have one they will go to the general public and rent what they need. Here there was a guy who had an old pickup from the 40's I think and it was beautiful. The movie company wanted to use it and he leased it to them and they weathered it. When you saw it in the movie you could not tell that it was the same pickup. When shooting was over they gave him the choice to get it back weathered or as they leased it. They removed the makeup and you would never know it looked like a piece of crap the day before.

A Mercury M100 got a lot of screen time in "An Unfinished Life", Redford and Morgan Freeman

And a few more...

It was actually a pretty good movie. The M100 was just a bonus.

Try as I might, just can't seem to get the tires to squeal on gravel. Can't hardly get them like that no more.
