considering an f150

Went and looked at a 2005 f150 today. It is a crew cab shortbed lariat that is 4x4 with the 5.4 and has around 130k miles. It has a couple problems... The dealer says it needs cam phasers and I agree with that from the small amount of reading Ive done on the 5.4. But when driving it I noticed a couple of things, the front end had a loud grinding that sounded like a hung up caliper to me along with the brake fluid being very low to the point where the dash light was also on. But the motor was fine until it warmed up... After it warmed up it sounded very similar to my powerstroke (I know cam phasers can get loud but do they get that loud?) and it was running very rough. When taking off from a stop it would bog down and almost die for a few seconds then come to life. It also had the feeling of transmission studder in 3rd and 4th gear going up a grade or accelerating gentley, im not sure if that has something to do with the motor running the way it does or the transmission. What do you guys think a truck like this is worth? They are asking 11900, I have them at 10k now and still think thats a bit much considering the work involved but I dont have much knoladge on the values of these trucks, Im more of a diesel guy but if i can get a good deal the rest of the truck is very nice. Thanks for any help!

Run.

The retail value of the problems is more than the value of the truck.

Buy a truck to drive, not to have sit and work on it all the time.

The going price in my area for junk autos is about $300.00 picked up, I wouldn't give them much above that amount, if they persist in asking any more than that I RUN not walk away. There are far too many decent running usable trucks out there to ever consider taking this one on.....jmho

the other thing to consider is that the 05's have the injector extended warranty ...there are qualifiers for that>>2005 5.4 3v injector letter: Ford Customer Satisfaction Program 07M08 - F150online Forums
