new power steering pump?
I guess I will try the Napa...the Advance Auto (3x) really are noisey
A few pointers as I did this the Spring of 2010:
-You will need to rent a tool from an auto parts store to remove the pulley. Said tool, requires an impact wrench. Try as you might to get it off with a socket wrench, you'll be spinning your wheels.
-You will need to remove the alternator and the bracket that the Alternator and Power steering pump are attached to. There are 4-5 bolts holding this massive bracket (or whatever you want to call it) onto the engine.
-While you're at an auto parts store (preferably O'reilly) make sure and pick up new hoses just in case. There's nothing like getting that far into the job and realizing you need a new hose somewhere. The hoses from O'reilly are a quality gates hose that comes with a 1 or 2 year warranty.
-The new pump you get may also be a revised version. My truck is a 2001 Model built October 6th, 2000 and had an early style pump. The pump I replaced it with, happened to be a 2002+ pump that was revised. What this meant was I needed a different hose instead of the one I purchsed. (slight difference, but the pump works better)
****Revised Step as of September 2014****
NO ONE WILL TELL YOU THIS!!!!!
-When you re-install the hot side intercooler pipe (must be removed for this job) pay VERY close attention as to how you're remounting the CAC pipe. The reason why is because if the pipe sags, it rubs against the metal power steering line and over time, wears a pin hole. (No powersteering = No brakes) Mock fit the the CAC pipe with the clamps in place. Make sure the hot side boot is secured to the Y-pipe, then push the top of the CAC pipe in so it angles out and away from the pump, fasten down the top side clamp, then fasten the bottom side clamp.
I picked up a Napa reman - was on sale. Thought I would try it.
